We use the best technology throughout our office, exams and patient care. From our new Topcon Maestro OCT to our Zeiss Humphrey field analyzer, we use the best and most efficient tools for a comprehensive eye exam. These diagnostic tools are integrated with our computerized, paperless patient records. You’ll find computers in all parts of the office, even in our lab and dispensary.
Digital Retinal Photography
Digital retinal imaging provide us with detailed pictures of the the retina and optic nerve. State-of-the-art software allows us to store, review and enhance the images to clearly record your current eye health. Future photos can be compared to detect any changes to your retina and optic nerve the next time you get your eyes examined. The system’s advanced technology enables us to take accurate images of your eyes for examination, to establish baselines and to detect small, gradual changes for the early detection of eye disease and therefore earlier treatment to help prevent vision loss.
Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT)
Optical coherence tomography measures the thickness of the retina at the microscopic level and makes it possible for our optometrists to identify and diagnose many types of retinal abnormalities by obtaining 3D optical scans of the retina. This is useful in evaluating age-related macular degeneration, cystoid macular edema, diabetic macular edema, macular traction syndrome, macular holes, and surface wrinkling retinopathy.
Visual Field Analysis
Our Zeiss Humphrey Field Analyzer( “perimeter”) provides advanced diagnosis and analysis validated by more than 25 years of research. This perimeter is the premier automated visual field analyzer that allows us to provide world standard of care.
The field analyzer allows us to :
- assess peripheral vision for glaucoma risk and progression
- detect neurologic pathologies such as stroke, brain tumours and aneurysms
- ensure you meet the requirements for driving in Ontario
- ensure medications you are taking for conditions such as arthritis and malaria prevention, are not causing visual field change
Autokeratometry measures the curvature of the cornea, or front of the eye, to determine contact lens fitting and optical integrity of the eye. This unit is also capable of mapping the corneal curvature, a higher order reading to detect subtle corneal disease and the effects of contact lens wear.
This pretest provides an objective measurement to assist us in determining your spectacle prescription. It is very helpful in providing a second objective measurement in younger or older people who may not be able to make lens comparisons to arrive at the optimal lens prescription.
Non Contact Tonometry (NCT)
Our NCT allows us to measure your intra-ocular pressure (one method to screen for glaucoma) without the need for an anaesthetic.
