Dr. Jane Newman
Dr. Newman graduated from the School of Optometry at the University of Waterloo in 1981. Upon graduating she was recognized with the Award for Clinical Proficiency, Outstanding Academic Achievement as well as an award for Excellence in Pathology.
She is a member of the Canadian Association of Optometrists and the Ontario Association of Optometrists. Dr. Newman completed advanced training in diagnosis and treatment of ocular disease from North Eastern State University in Oklahoma in 1995 and is qualified to prescribe therapeutic agents for the treatment and management of ocular disease.
She is an active member and past president of the Zonta Club of Kitchener-Waterloo. She has also been active with minor soccer, lacrosse and basketball. Dr. Newman also enjoys sea kayaking, tennis, squash and travel.
For the past 5 years and again in 2017, Dr. Newman has been recognized through the Reader’s Choice Awards as Waterloo’s Favourite Optometrist .
Dr. Jenna Bright
Dr. Bright graduated from the School of Optometry at the University of Waterloo in 2011. She is a member of the Canadian Association of Optometrists and Ontario Association of Optometrists. Prior to her optometry training, she completed her Bachelor of Science and Masters in Vision Science both at the University of Waterloo.Dr. Bright successfully completed an externship in therapeutics and ocular disease at Clarity Eye Institute in Vaughan, Ontario. She is qualified to prescribe therapeutic agents for the treatment and management of ocular disease.
Dr. Bright has a passion for providing eye care to those less fortunate and was part of a 6 week eye care mission in India. Dr. Bright enjoys all aspects of primary care optometry and is very enthusiastic about caring for patients of all ages. In her spare time she enjoys spending time with family, exploring the outdoors and loves to travel!
Dr. Marian Elder
Dr. Elder received her Doctor of Optometry degree at the University of Waterloo in 2011. Upon graduation from Waterloo she was awarded the Irving Baker Excellence in Clinical Optometry Scholarship. She is a member of the Canadian Association of Optometrists and the Ontario Association of Optometrists. Dr. Elder completed her ocular therapeutics at Parkland Health and Hospital in Dallas, Texas and also did clinical externships in Ontario at optometry offices in Burlington and Fergus. Dr. Elder became a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry in 2013. She is qualified to prescribe therapeutic agents for the treatment and management of ocular disease.
Dr. Elder enjoys seeing patients of all ages and has participated in research projects about the importance of eye exams for children prior to starting school. In her spare time, she enjoys travelling and spending time with her family and friends.
Dr. Theresa Donelson
Following in her fathers profession, Dr. Donelson studied Optometry and graduated from the University of Waterloo in 1986. She joined Dr. Jane Newman in practice that year in Waterloo. She completed advanced training in diagnosis and management of ocular disease from North Eastern State University in Oklahoma, receiving certification in 1995. A regular attendee at continuing education sessions in Canada and the United States, she is a member of the Ontario Association of Optometrists and the Canadian Association of Optometrists.
Dr. Donelson has been a resident of Waterloo since 1980 and,with her husband Rob, has raised their five children there. Along with her local community involvement over the years, Dr. Donelson has participated in two eye mission trips with Volunteer Optometric Services for Humanity (VOSH) providing eye examinations and glasses in rural Guatemala and an international build project in Nicaragua.
Dr. Donelson retired in August 2017. We know she will be missed by many, but her patients can be confident they will continue to receive the same excellence in care from the other doctors and staff at our clinic. We wish her a Happy Retirement and many adventures for the years ahead.
Barbie, is a trained optician and will most often be the friendly voice you hear on the telephone or the person who greets you when you enter the office. Barbie joined our practice in the February of 2003 and has been working in optometry for approximately 25 years.
Carol has been with Dr. Newman and Dr. Donelson since October 2001 and has several years of experience working in the optometric field prior to that. She may be the one who will do the pretesting before you see the doctor, visual field testing, help you with frame selection or contact lens instruction and you may see her helping out at the front desk.
Linda joined our office in 2013. She has worked in the Optometry field for 17 years. You may meet Linda while you have your glasses adjusted, when you are selecting a new frame or when you are learning how to insert and remove contact lenses. She may also do your pre-testing or visual field testing. Linda enjoys travel, reading, and chocolate!
Angela joined our office in Feb. 2015. She has worked over 20 years as an optometric assistant and lab technician. Angela co-ordinates frame orders and lens processing to ensure patients receive the highest possible glasses quality and service. She also helps with patient pre-testing , frame selection and frame adjustments. In her spare time she is a proud chauffeur for her children.
Colleen has been a member of our team since 2011. She is often the voice you will hear when she calls to confirm your appointment or remind you it is time for your next examination. Colleen also performs examination pretesting and any other special testing our patients require. Helping you to chose that perfect frame is something Colleen really enjoys.
Theresa joined our clinic in 2010 and had been working in optometry for many years prior to joining our team. She delights in helping patients with frame selection and contact lens instruction. Theresa is a proud grandma and has fulfilled a lifelong dream of getting her motorcycle license.
